Programme

It is important to have installed beforehand in your laptops the VO-tools to be used in the School, namely:

  • ALADIN (Download the Aladin.jar file and execute it from a terminal using “java -jar Aladin.jar”)
  • TOPCAT (Download the topcat-full.jar file and execute it from a terminal using “java -jar topcat-full.jar”)
  • VOSA (Web server. You don't need to install anything)
  • STILTS (Download the stilts.jar file and execute it from a terminal using “java -jar stilts.jar”)

 

Day 1. Friday 20 November (09:15h - 14:00h)

  • 09:15 - 09:30 Reception of participants. Check that everything (zoom, slack, video, audio,...) is working well

  • 10:05 - 11:40 Tutorial #1: Discovery of Brown Dwarfs mining the 2MASS and SDSS databases (PDF)
    • 10:05 - 10:20 Presentation of the science case. Introduction to Aladin, TOPCAT and STILTS
    • 10:20 - 11:40 Hands-on activity by participants
