Data Analysis/Data Mining Tools: Projects
Automated classification of the COROT and OMC light curves
- The OMC and CoRoT archives contain thousands of light curves. This prevents from using techniques based on visual inspection by human experts and data mining techniques must be used instead.
The GAIA project
- Gaia is an ambitious mission to chart a three-dimensional map of our Galaxy, the Milky Way, in the process revealing the composition, formation and e volution of the Galaxy. Gaia will provide unprecedented positional and radial velocity measurements with the accuracies needed to produce a stereoscopic and kinematic census of about one billion stars in our Galaxy and throughout the Local Group. This amounts to about 1 per cent of the Galactic stellar population.
- We are working for the Astrophysical Parameters coordination unit (CU8), which is responsible for "classification" tasks, and for CU7, the Coordination unit dedicated to the analysis of temporal Variability. These tasks use fully calibrated photometry, spectroscopy and (to some extent) astrometry to classify objects and estimate their astrophysical parameters.
